What is a 3rd party result?

Mathew Coghlan -

This is a search result for a website which contains your business name within it. This is not your own website but are typically sites such as online directories or social media sites on which your business has a profile/page. Examples of 3rd part sites are ‘Yelp, Citysearch, Facebook, Twitter, youtube etc… Search engines index the pages on these sites and may return results for your business when a particular keyword is searched for.

We show these results in the Rank Checker because we know they are a good source of new customers for your business. It is also very useful to see how you can dominate the search results by having profiles on these directories.

Can I stop 3rd Party results from appearing in the results table?

In the Rank Checker form there is a field labelled ‘Advanced Settings’. If you ensure this option is not selected, then your ranking report will not use your business name, zip code or phone as part of the search look-up.

This means that we won’t return results for 3rd Party sites.

Note – but this also means that we may not return results for Bing local because they do not display your website URL on their local search listings. We will be updating the Rank Checker shortly to enable Bing results to be returned but all other directories to be excluded.
