What platform does Local Search Grid use to find and report on rankings?

Local Search Grid uses Google Local Finder to find and report on rankings. It's very similar to Google Maps.

Google Local Finder is what feeds the Local 3 Pack (shown in the image below) that Google displays in the main organic results.
