In this guide, we'll take you through how to verify a Google, Bing, Apple or Yelp listing. Use the contents table on the right to help you navigate this guide.
How to verify a Google listing
Open your Citation Builder report and find the Google listing in the Directories table. Then click on the 'See Notes' button next to the Google listing and a pop up will appear. 
Copy the ‘Verification link’ in the pop-up and open it in a new window.
Enter the email address and password from the pop-up in the new verification window that you just opened.
Scroll down and click the blue ‘Verify now’ button.
In the next window, Google may give you more than one way to verify your listing. Click the option that best suits you and follow the steps. If you decide to verify by phone it’s a good idea to make sure your client is available to receive the call beforehand.
Here it’s only giving the option to verify by postcard. Enter the contact name and then click the blue Mail button.
When you receive your verification code, log in to the same Google Business Profile account that you used to request the postcard. In the left-hand menu, click ‘Verify now’ or ‘Verify location’ and follow the on-screen instructions.
How to verify a Bing listing
Open your Citation Builder report and find the Bing listing in the Directories table. Then click on the 'See Notes' button next to the Bing listing and a pop-up will appear.
Copy the ‘Verification link’ in the pop-up and open it in a new window.
The email address in the pop-up is for Gmail, so on the next page we’re going to click to sign in using our Google Account option and enter the email address and password in the pop-up. Sign in using whatever type of email is in your pop-up window.
In the next window, click ‘Verify now’.
Choose the way that you would like to verify your business either by phone, SMS/text, email or post, and follow the instructions.
For example, if you click to verify by phone you’ll need to add your phone number and then click ‘Verify now’.
You’ll then receive a verification code via whatever method you chose. If you decide to verify by phone it’s a good idea to make sure your client is available to receive the call beforehand.
When you receive the code, log in to your Bing account and enter the code to verify your business.
How to verify an Apple listing
Open your Citation Builder report and find the Apple listing in the Directories table. Then click on the 'See Notes' button next to the Apple listing and a pop-up will appear.
If you don’t already have an Apple account, then you’ll need to create one, which you can do by clicking the ‘Apple Account Creation Guide’ link in the pop-up.
Once your Apple account is created, copy the ‘Apple Claim Page’ link in the pop-up and open it in a new window.
Click ‘Sign in with your Apple ID’ and enter your Apple ID and password.
Read and agree to the Terms of Use.
In the next window, enter your business name in the search box and it should come up in a dropdown below. If it doesn’t click ‘Add a missing place’ and follow the steps.
Click ‘Verify Ownership’.
Enter your business details and then hit ‘Next’.
Enter your primary contact’s details and click ‘Save and continue’.
Apple will call the contact number listed and tell give you a 4-digit verification code. It’s a good idea to make sure your client is available to receive the call beforehand.
When you have the code, enter it and click ‘Done’.
How to verify a Yelp listing
Open your Citation Builder report and find the Yelp listing in the Directories table. Then click on the 'See Notes' next to the Yelp listing and a pop-up will appear.
Copy the ‘Verification link’ in the pop-up and open it in a new window.
Click ‘Log in’’ and enter the email address and password in the pop-up.
In the next window, Yelp may give you more than one way to verify your listing. Click the option that best suits you and follow the steps.
Here it’s only giving the option to verify by phone. If you decide to verify by phone it’s a good idea to make sure your client is available to receive the call beforehand.
Then follow the instructions to enter your verification code.
