What are Active Citations and how are they gathered?

Mathew Coghlan -

Active Citations are live listings or mentions of your website on online directories such as Yelp.com or Yellowpages.com and on third party websites for example blogs, and social networking sites such as Facebook. These listings usually include the name of your business, postal address, telephone number and sometimes an active link to your website.

Citations are a big factor in Google+Local ranking. So we use Google to locate your citations. We run an automated search in Google using your business name and postal code &/or phone number. We remove any duplicated results/websites and return a clean list of Active Citations. It’s important to note that these Citations are already within Google’s index so Google is aware of them which is essential for your Google+ Local SEO. So to ensure that we correctly identify your business, it’s important to enter your business name, postal code & phone number; otherwise we’ll be barking up the wrong tree!
