This article covers Local Search Grid on our new platform. Looking for the legacy platform instructions? See What is Local Search Grid? (Legacy Platform)
Local Search Grid shows you exactly where your business ranks in local search at points on a map for any keyword you’re tracking.
Instead of giving you one ranking number for a whole city, the grid shows you where you rank from one point to the next, so you can see the true shape of your visibility and discover who your competitors really are.
Where to find it
You can find your Local Search Grid report when viewing a location and selecting Local Search Grid from the side-navigation menu.
Setting up a new report, or changing an existing report’s settings, is still done in our legacy platform; if you click something that takes you there, you’ll see a short notice first, and it’ll open in a new tab so you don’t lose your place.
What you’ll see
Each report is color-coded to help you understand where you’re ranking well and where the opportunity lies:
- Green (ranks 1–3)
- Amber (ranks 4–10)
- Orange (ranks 11–20)
- Red (ranks 21 and below)
Alongside your own rankings, the report shows you the competitors' ranking when clicking on a grid point, so you can see exactly what your business needs to change or improve. For example, if you have more reviews and a similar star rating to your top competitors, but a different primary category, updating your Google Business Profile category might help improve your rankings.
