This article covers Local Search Grid on our new platform. Looking for the legacy platform instructions? See How do I understand a Local Search Grid report? (Legacy Platform)
Once you open a Local Search Grid report, you’ll see three sections: an overview of your grid, a way to compare two dates, and a competitor table.
A quick note before you dive in: these three sections work independently of one another. Changing the keyword or date in one section won’t update the others, so you’ll want to set each section up separately for the keyword or date you’re interested in.
Overview
The overview shows a grid of points spread across a map around your business. Use the keyword and date selectors to see how your rankings looked for any keyword you're tracking, on any date the report has run.
Each point is colored according to your rank there for the keyword you’ve selected:
- Green (ranks 1–3)
- Amber (ranks 4–10)
- Orange (ranks 11–20)
- Red (ranks 21 and below)
Click any point on the grid to see the top five competitors ranking there for that keyword. This is a great way to spot a competitor you didn’t know you were up against in a specific area.
Then vs now
Use this section to select a keyword and two dates to compare your reports side by side. This is the clearest way to see whether you’re actually improving.
Competitor table
This table lists the competitors appearing alongside you in local search for a selected keyword, showing each competitor’s ranking, review count, and Google category information.
