Once you open a Local Search Grid (LSG) report, you’ll see three sections: an overview of your grid, a way to compare two dates, and a competitor table.
These three sections work independently of one another. Changing the keyword or date in one section won’t update the others, so you’ll want to set each section up separately for the keyword or date you’re interested in.
Overview
The overview shows a grid of points spread across a map around your business. Use the keyword and date selectors to see how your rankings looked for any keyword you're tracking, on any date the report has run.
Each point is colored according to your rank there for the keyword you’ve selected:
- Green (1–3)
- Amber (4–10)
- Orange (11–20)
- Red (over 20)
Click any point on the grid to see the top businesses ranking there for that keyword. This is a great way to spot a competitor you didn’t know you were up against in a specific area.
Date comparison
Use this section to select a keyword and two dates to compare your reports side by side. This is the clearest way to see whether you’re actually improving.
Competitors
This table lists the competitors appearing alongside you in local search for the selected keyword and date. Here you can compare metrics against your own business or other top competitors:
- Avg. rank: The average rank for the selected keyword across the same grid configuration.
- Business: Including the business name, Google review star rating and review count.
- Categories: Primary and secondary buisiness categories as listed on their Google Business Profile.
- Links: Online mentions from other websites that point to the business.
- Authority: A measure of how trusted the business is by Google.
Competitor comparison
In this section, you can select one of the top ten competitors and compare side-by-side how their rankings would appear on Local Search Grid for a selected keyword and date.
Here you can also directly compare the average rank, primary category, additional categories, reviews and rating against your own business.
