To calculate your Average Google Position in a Rank Tracker report, we'll take the highest-ranking results for each keyword from the most recent report run of each month, from Google, Google Mobile (not available on our Single Business plan), and Google Maps, add them together, and then divide that by the number of results.
For example, in the table below we'll add up all of the ranking results (248), then we divide that number by the number of results we just added up (15) to get the average (16.5333). We then round this up to the nearest decimal point (16.5).
Keywords | Organic Desktop | Organic Mobile | Local Finder |
Cafe near me | 8 | 34 | 48 |
Cafe Brighton | 15 | 4 | 4 |
Coffee and tea | 9 | 51 | 1 |
Bakery cafe | 1 | 32 | 5 |
Lunch and coffee | 2 | 2 | 32 |
Average position 16.5 |
Please note, that if a ranking result is not in the top 50 then we will use the number 51. Also, sometimes there are multiple results for one keyword. In this instance, we use the highest-ranking result in the calculation. We don't include 3rd party results.
