In this guide, we outline the steps you need to take in order to update or renew an existing Citation Builder campaign.
The Citation Builder campaign helps to make sure that business data and contact details are all up to date and consistent across all directories.
Citations only require renewal if the business moves to a different location, changes its phone number, or any other important part of their contact information changes.
Data aggregators/networks, however, do require renewing, but these are optional. We'll send a reminder email to the person who set up the original campaign roughly 30 days before the expiry dates.
If you have an existing Citation Builder campaign with BrightLocal then you can update and renew your citations and data aggregators/networks by renewing your campaign.
Please note: It's worth pointing out that only finished campaigns can be renewed — you will not be able to renew the campaign that has already been started and is in progress.
Important: Before you renew the campaign, you need to make sure you update the business information. Go to your Locations Overview page, find the Location in question, and make sure you correct/update the information that has changed in the “Core Information” section.
1) Renewing via Citation Builder tab
When you are logged in to your BrightLocal account, go to the Citation Builder tab on the dashboard and find the Location you want to update.
Click the 'Update' button next to the Location you want to update/renew (see below within the red box).
Select the number of citations that you would like to update in the 'Number of citations' box (as shown within the red box below).
If you're not sure how many you need, scroll down until you reach the section called 'Update citations used in previous campaigns' (shown below within the red box). These are the citations that were set up in the previous campaign — the ones that you should select if you want them to be updated.
Check how many there are, then scroll back up and enter the number into the 'Number of citations' box.
Next, check the 'Available new citations' section and select any that you would also like to be added.
You may need to scroll back up and increase the number you inputted in the 'Number of citation submissions' box to select these.
If you also want to update your information with data aggregators/networks, scroll back up and select any of the available data aggregators/networks (as shown in the red box below). Not sure what a data aggregator is? Click here.
Click the green 'Confirm and Continue' button at the bottom of the page. This will take you to step 3 of the campaign setup, where you can edit the business details, update the information that has changed, leave any further instructions for our team, and pay for the campaign.
2) Renewing directly from the report
Another way to renew the campaign is directly from the campaign report.
In 'All Locations' find the business you want to update/renew and click the 'View' button.
Go to the “Core Information” section and update your location details.
Next, click on 'Citation Builder' on the left-hand sidebar.
You will see the latest Citation Builder report for that specific location. Simply click on the 'Buy More Citations' button (indicated below within the red box).
Select the number of citations that you would like to update in the 'Number of citations' box (as shown within the red box below).
