What is the difference between Citation Tracker and Citation Builder?

The Citation Tracker and Citation Builder are distinct tools designed to serve different purposes in managing your business citations.

Citation Tracker is part of our reporting toolset, ideal for those who prefer to manage their citations independently. It helps you find, audit, manage, and track your citations through detailed reports. You can add, update, or correct listings directly in the Citation Tracker by clicking the three dots to reveal the Citation Information button. There you can make edits and leave yourself or colleagues notes.

These editable notes, are intended for internal use only, as a form of communication within your office and between colleagues. Editing these citations in the Citation Tracker report does not amend the citation itself, nor does anyone at BrightLocal see or action these notes. You would need to then go and make these edits to the live citations directly, or create a Citation Builder campaign with us and we will do it for you.

Citation Builder, on the other hand, is a standalone service where we handle citation creation and submission on your behalf for a fee. You select the sites you want to target and provide your business details, and we take care of the rest. Any new citation links generated through a Citation Builder campaign are automatically added to the Citation Tracker report for the corresponding Location.

In summary, use Citation Tracker for self-management and auditing of existing citations, and opt for Citation Builder when you need us to create and submit new citations for you.
