Directories like Yelp require business owner involvement to verify and claim listings. BrightLocal will submit your business information to Yelp as part of a citation campaign, but Yelp often requires an extra verification step (such as an automated phone call or email to the business owner) to activate the listing or update.
BrightLocal cannot complete that verification for you, since it typically involves interacting with Yelp’s system as the business owner. If your Yelp citation shows as “Verification Required” or isn’t marked live, check the email inbox associated with your business or any messages from Yelp. You may need to follow a link or enter a code to confirm the listing. In some cases, Yelp might call the business phone with a PIN.
Once you complete Yelp’s verification, the listing should go live, or the update should reflect. In summary, BrightLocal gets the process started for Yelp, but you must finish the verification directly with Yelp. This is true for a few directories that prioritize owner-verified data (another example is Bing – it may also need you to verify). If you’re unsure how to verify, please reach out to our team via the 'Ask a Question' button found on your Citation Builder campaign report page. They can offer further guidance on the steps, but you will need to take the action required by the directory.
