Not automatically – changing your business information (such as moving to a new address, rebranding your name, or getting a new phone number) will not, by itself, update the listings that were previously built via BrightLocal’s Citation Builder service. Once a citation is created on a directory site, it remains as-is until someone updates it. Here are your options when your info changes:
- Active Sync (Listing Management): If you have BrightLocal’s Active Sync service, BrightLocal will continuously push updates of your core information to certain major listings (like Google, Facebook, Bing, and other key partners). In that case, Active Sync will handle updating those specific listings with your new details automatically.
- New Citation Campaign or Update Campaign: For other listings that were built with one-time submissions, you will likely need to run a citation update campaign. BrightLocal doesn’t automatically redo past citations when you change info, so you can purchase a Citation Builder campaign focused on updating existing listings with your new info. When ordering, please provide the new details, and it is recommended to add a campaign note that there are updates to previous listings. Our team will then proceed to update those directories (or create new listings where needed).
- Manual Updates: Alternatively, you (or your team) could manually log in to each directory site that has your listing and change the details. This is time-consuming, which is why many prefer to use BrightLocal to handle it via a new campaign.
In summary, unless you are using Active Sync to cover automatic updates on major sites, you’ll need to update citations when your info changes by ordering an update service or doing it manually. It’s important to keep your listings consistent, so plan to update them promptly after any big change to avoid misinformation online.
