Not automatically – changing your business information (such as moving to a new address, rebranding your name, or getting a new phone number) will not, by itself, update the listings that were previously built via our Citation Builder (CB) service. Once a citation is created on a directory site, it remains as-is until someone updates it.
Here are your options when your business information changes:
Active Sync (Listing Management)
If your plan includes Active Sync and it's enabled for your location, BrightLocal will continuously push updates of your core information to any connected major listings (Google, Facebook, Bing, and Apple). In that case, Active Sync will handle updating those specific listings with your new details automatically.
New Citation Campaign or Update Campaign
For other listings that were built with one-time submissions, you will need to run a new citation campaign. BrightLocal doesn't automatically redo past citations when you change information, so you can purchase a Citation Builder campaign focused on updating existing listings with your changes.
When ordering, please provide the new details, and it is recommended to highlight key changes in the campaign note section. Our team will then proceed to update those directories (or create new listings where needed).
Manual Updates
Alternatively, you can log in to each directory site that you're listed on and change the details manually. This is time-consuming, which is why many prefer to use BrightLocal to handle it via a new Citation Builder campaign.
In summary, unless you are using Active Sync to cover automatic updates on major sites, you’ll need to update citations when your information changes by ordering an update campaign or doing it manually. It’s important to keep your listings consistent, so plan to update them promptly after any big change to avoid misinformation online.
